sunday times: waterfowl and global warming
I was glad to see that the National Wildlife Federation published a report, "The Waterfowler's Guide to Global Warming." The report details how global warming may impact waterfowl numbers, providing information on projections on the effects of climate change on the prairie pothole region of the Great Plains, known as North America's "duck factory"; northern tundra areas, where many geese nest; coastal wetlands, the primary wintering area for waterfowl; and how climate changes may influence the timing and extent of waterfowl migration. The web site also provides 15 state-specific fact sheets.
Engaging the nation's 3 million waterfowl hunters with their strong record of organization, activism, and support of conservation is a great idea. Ducks Unlimited has already linked to the report on their web site. Related resources:
