friday cat blog: bow munching
(Man, Friday rolls around fast these days!)
Kady loves to chew on things. Favorite items include Tyvek envelopes, paperback book covers, bookmarks, thin compact disk sleeves, packing tape hanging off cardboard boxes, and the corners of said boxes. She never eats any of these things, just perforates them. Sometimes it's just a little "Kady has been here" piercing. Other times they are masticated until they don't make a cool crunchy noise anymore. Her favorite objects to munch are bows.
I discovered this our first Christmas together (I don't celebrate Christmas per se, but cannot find a graceful way to extricate myself from the gift-giving circus). One evening, after wrapping presents and placing them under the collection of reindeer that stand in as my holiday decor, I went out to run an errand and returned to find that the bows of all the gifts had been fanged. Some had been completely removed from gifts and lay mangled in the next room. At the time, Sophie was not in residence, so there was only one guilty cat to blame.
Now my gifts come unadorned. (As an aside, I don't even wrap gifts anymore. They go out in gift bags that are continually recycled among the circle of people with whom I exchange presents.) Bows are still provided as treats for Kady. Here she is digging into a fresh one. Crackle, crunch...

Our last cat was a bow-muncher too. The current crop loves a ball of foil best.
